As the population ages, the prevalence of osteoporosis increases with resultant increase in the risks of bone fractures. We are also referring more people for assessment of bone mineral density, thereby able to find asymptomatic persons with low bone mineral density. This brings the dilemma of whether to treat or not to treat and, if so, when to do so.
