Dr Leila Asfour is a UK-trained Consultant dermatologist who completed her postgraduate training in Manchester and London. Her interest in hair disorders has evolved during her training in a regional specialist hair clinic led by Dr M. Harries and her work in Professor R. Paus’ hair biology laboratory at the University of Manchester. She is currently completing an international Hair and Scalp Disorders Fellowship under the mentorship of Professor R. Sinclair.

She has been awarded a British Skin Foundation research grant for her project on chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
She sits on the panel updating the British Association of Dermatologists’ Alopecia Areata guidelines.
She has presented nationally and internationally and has received several awards including from the BAD for her presentations and written work. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and is a regular reviewer for several dermatology journals. She developed the section on ‘medical ethics and law in clinical practice and research’ for the British Association of Dermatologists’ registrar curriculum.
She has contributed to the updating of Health Education England e-learning modules on different types of hair loss aimed for GP, junior doctors and dermatology trainees.
She has collaborated with Alopecia UK on a treatment blog and the development of national patient leaflets on several hair conditions. She helped design, organise and cochair the first BHNS SPR training day on ‘hair and nails disorders’.
